Sir Henry, son of lord Cavendish, duke of Devonshire, was born in Nice during a stay of his parents. Very rich, solitary and misanthrope, he dedicated himself completely to the physics and to the chemistry. He identified the nitric acid and defined the properties of hydrogen. He found the composition of air and water. He calculated the density of the globe. He worked on electricity, magnetism and the phenomena of acceleration.
