Created in 1904 by division of LaTurbie (the director of the casino of Monte Carlo being then the mayor of La Turbie) this municipality became quickly the municipality - dormitory of the employees which the fast development of Monaco and especially Monte Carlo attracted. The municipality had difficulty in distancing itself from this image and in becoming in its turn a tourist station without giving up its first function of place of residence of active persons working in the nearby municipalities; 12 774 inhabitants today. This municipality was characterized by the presence of an important Italian colony which constituted an important part of the population.
